Seymour Johnson Airforce Base

Consolidated Support Center

The Consolidated Support Center at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base is an executive-level military court and administrative office building. This project involved a new 43,150 square foot facility to house the Mission Support Group Commander and staff; all installation legal counsel functions; a full military court; base contracting staff; and Family Support Center staff. The site design had to accommodate aging infrastructure and utilize innovative storm water solutions through non-conventional material use. Post construction services included FF&E coordination and tenant move-in.

Apogee Consulting Group was the lead mechanical designer for this design-build project. In addition to Mechanical Engineering services, Apogee developed Energy Modeling and Life Cycle Cost Analysis, and provided engineering design services for the variable refrigerant volume (VRV) HVAC system.

Steps taken by Apogee to facilitate LEED® Gold Certification included:

  • A VRV HVAC system offering a minimum 30% efficiency improvement as compared to ASHRAE 90.1-2004
  • Coordination of a lighting design effort with the electrical design engineer to ensure the lighting design and control met the requirements of the energy model and LEED® Certification
  • Calculations displaying comparative economic measures for the alternative design showing net savings, savings-to-investment ratio, adjusted internal rate of return and years-to-payback.
