With more than 12 years of work at the VA valued at more than $500 million in estimated construction costs, projects in 14 of the VA’s 21 VISNs and 20 IDIQ contracts in total, our record and dedication to meeting the unique needs of each of VA clients is testament to our expertise and leadership in health care design.

Past performance pays it forward

Our design services teams have completed many projects on all of the campuses within VISN 19, giving them substantial knowledgeable of local codes, permits, and regulatory requirements as well as the topography, climate, geological conditions and unique aspects of the region.

One of our most notable undertakings in VISN 19 is the renovation of a 100-year-old building on the National Historic Register at the Sheridan, Wyo. Medical Center campus.

There were interior and exterior historic elements that needed to be preserved in the remodel, as well as the need to make the interior of the building functional for modern administrative needs housing two call centers. Apogee was able to balance these two things in the design and produce a high-quality, cost-effective remodeled facility.

The building renovation had an aggressive construction schedule, yet the historic nature of the building meant that some information was unknown about existing conditions. Apogee was present on site at least monthly during the startup and completion phases of the job to ensure that coordination occurred.

All submittals were prioritized based on critical path while our team provided same day responsiveness to work out differing site condition issues while taking care to minimize disruption of the historic features of the building, including stairwells and ceilings.

Apogee also assisted with updating the campus Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure Plan, associated with adding the new backup generator to the building, and helping to get it and the new generator approved by the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality.

“We have been very pleased with the work of Apogee on this project. They have
helped to turn an unused building back into a key space for our medical center,” Joseph Wingfield, VA contract specialist, notes in the VA’s official Contractor Performance Assessment Report. “The measures that they incorporated into the design, to both preserve historic features and to improve sound quality for the call centers have been a great success and have been highly praised by all who have visited the building.”
