VA Durham: Energy Upgrades

This project included the replacement of approximately 400 obsolete HVAC induction and reheat boxes with modern variable air volume (VAV) boxes.

New direct digital controls were added, which included floor-level JACEs with communication to a master supervisor and subsequent integration into an existing on-site engineering control center.

The project also included the replacement of defective hot water heating piping and fittings to eliminate chronic leaks and flooding along with upgraded select heating coils.

All work met the National Fire Protection (NFPA), National Electric Code (NEC), National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), Energy Independence, Security Act of 2007 (EISA 2007), Underwriters Laboratory, Inc. (UL), Federal, State, and Local regulations and codes, as well as the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards and guidelines.
