VA Pittsburgh: Domestic Water Mapping

Apogee served as the prime contractor for this project to conduct a facility-wide field investigation and mapping of the domestic water system to facilitate the correction of deficiencies primarily related to mitigating the risk of Legionella and compliance with VA directives.

The field investigation included hot water generation and the distribution systems (hot water, hot water return, and cold water). Apogee produced color-coded drawings of all facility piping including dead legs in the system, valve locations and uninsulated sections.

Project work covered nearly all campus-related facilities, including the main hospital, clinic, and other support buildings. Extreme care was taken to not disturb patients or staff during the eight-month long survey process and procedures were strictly followed for infection control.

Documents will be used to correct deficiencies in the domestic water system and define future phased projects to meet VA directives.
