VA Salt Lake City: PAMNS Upgrade

Apogee was tasked to redesign and upgrade the following systems: Public Address Mass Notification System, Code Blue, Nurse Call, Panic Alarm, and Duress Alarm. The project also upgraded the CCTV throughout the campus.

Apogee was tasked by the VA Salt Lake City to assess the Public Address Mass Notification System (PAMNS), code blue, emergency call, and nurse call systems across the campus and outpatient campus. Apogee met with representatives from biomed, police, nursing, safety, and facilities to discuss current system configurations and future needs.

The new PAMNS covers the entire campus by announcing an emergency call to a zone, floor, and building at the entire campus.

The existing system was a Rauland Borg Responder 4 R4. The VA requested that the nurse call be upgraded to the new Responder 5 R5 to integrate it into the new PAMNS. The nurse call system was integrated with the PAMNS via text to speech device.

Code blue is part of the nurse call system, but its function notifies the emergency team on the floor. Apogee evaluated the locations and improved coverage based on the request of the VA.

The existing duress and panic alarm does not cover all the areas in the hospital, and the VA requested more coverage. Apogee evaluated existing locations and improved coverage.

To ensure minimal impact to the operating hospital, Apogee designed detailed phasing that was incorporated into the construction documents.
