VA Salt Lake: Energy-Efficient Lighting

As prime contractor, Apogee partnered with the George E. Wahlen VA Medical Center in Salt Lake City to provide design services for energy-efficient lighting improvements.

Working with a fixed budget, Apogee performed an overall survey of the existing facility interior lighting systems and some of the exterior lighting fixtures. The survey encompassed six buildings for a total of approximately 697,000 SF.

Based on the survey, a strategy was developed to provide the best value to the VA while maximizing energy savings within the facility.

The project balanced aesthetics, patient care, maintainability, and the needs of the various user groups while making a difference in the energy consumption of the facility. Unit costing and deduct alternates were developed to ensure that the VA gets the most for their budget.
