Project
VA Little Rock Install OR Hybrid
A high-performance hybrid OR designed for safety, efficiency, and certification—uniting advanced imaging technology with modern clinical infrastructure.
Apogee served as the prime A/E design firm for the 3,500-square-foot Hybrid OR2F renovation, transforming an unfinished shell into a fully operational hybrid operating room equipped to support a ceiling-mounted image-guided therapy system. Our multidisciplinary team integrated architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, and technology systems to create a certifiable environment fully compliant with current VA design guides and clinical requirements.
Although the existing room footprint remained unchanged, extensive architectural and equipment coordination optimized the layout for safety, workflow, and future certification. Doors were replaced, lead-lined walls were extended to deck, and Apogee worked closely with Philips to coordinate the C-arm installation. We designed an integrated manifold system to support the C-arm, ancillary boom arms, and directional lighting—streamlining construction and ensuring compatibility across all critical systems. A dual workstation with dedicated power improved staff workflow, while coordination with Swiss Log added a new pneumatic tube access point for efficient transfer of medications and lab samples.
Mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, and technology upgrades extended beyond the OR suite to its 1,500-square-foot rooftop penthouse, which now houses a dedicated AHU, VAV box, hot water reheat coil, HEPA filtration, two electrical panels, and a transformer. Within the operating room, new medical gas outlets, data drops, upgraded lighting, a code blue station, and real-time locating equipment were integrated with the hospital’s systems. Both the OR and penthouse received new fire protection systems, including sprinklers and fire alarm devices tied into the facility network.
Through careful phasing, close stakeholder engagement, and rigorous interdisciplinary coordination, Apogee delivered a fully functional, certifiable hybrid operating room that enhances patient safety, improves staff efficiency, and expands the medical center’s operational capabilities.
