President

As President and Senior Electrical Engineer, Michael sets the tone for Apogee’s core values of client-focused partnerships, uncompromising design and service quality. With over 30 years of experience in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC system design, operations, technical writing, training, and field support, his experience and dedication have been instrumental in the success of many high-profile projects. Michael is actively involved in project design and consultation, and excels in diagnosing and resolving challenging design concerns. His projects include healthcare facilities, military institutions, commercial office buildings, churches, academic institutions, restaurants, retail space, telecommunication facilities, and pharmaceutical, industrial, chemical, and power plants.
Charles G. Sowders, III, PE

Chief Operations Officer

Charlie Sowders has achieved 32 years of experience in cross-discipline project management and engineering design of electrical systems. Extensively experienced in the role of lead engineer and in project management, Charlie has performed these roles for a variety of projects involving electrical power distribution, grounding, lighting and industrial machine controls. Projects that have benefited from his services include healthcare for VA hospitals, multi-family residential, universities, churches, restaurants, retail, commercial office buildings, warehouses, hotels, industrial facilities, municipal, and telecommunication facilities. Charlie's major strengths include leadership, collaboration, and planning.
Kenneth M. Noel, RA

Chief of Design Services

Kenneth Noel joined Apogee Consulting Group in 2011 as Architect and Senior Project Manager. He is a registered Architect with over 30 years of experience in design for healthcare, educational, financial, commercial, retail, and restaurant facilities. Ken’s background includes full facility master plans, accessibility/constructability reviews, design, construction documentation, and construction administration. He has successfully managed over 15 architectural and structural engineering staff in the performance of projects utilizing the design-build delivery method. His diverse projects have ranged in size from $100,000 to $23,000,000, and have included everything from extensive remodeling/additions to complete new construction. Kenneth brings valuable insight and skill to the Apogee team, further enhancing our ability to integrate multiple disciplines on a variety of projects.
Dorell J. Royster, PE, HFDP

Mechanical Engineering Manager

Dorell Royster joined Apogee in 2008 and contributes to the success of a variety of projects with his expertise in hydronic and gas-fired heating systems; DX cooling; and water, sewer, compressed air and fuel gas plumbing systems. He is experienced in the design of mechanical and plumbing systems and has extensive knowledge of CADD/BIM systems, 3D/4D virtual design and construction methodology. Dorell has proven design experience in hospitals, commercial office space, churches, schools, multi-unit dwellings, and retail space. He is a registered mechanical professional engineer with the state of North Carolina.
J. Kevin Mason, PE, LEED AP

Electrical Engineering Manager

Kevin Mason is an outstanding electrical engineer with an excellent business sense and strong leadership skills. His projects include all areas of electrical engineering from electrical distribution, photovoltaic systems, fire alarm design, lighting and telecommunication systems, as well as emergency power generation. With over 24 years of experience, he has extensive technical knowledge, experience with complex facilities, ability to bring multiple stakeholders together and experience in implementing innovative design solutions.
